four children swept away

The bodies of four children brutally swept away in a creek engulfed by storm waters in Western Kentucky were recovered early sunday morning, local city authorities said. The mother and her six childeren were using a street 6 feet deep in water, trying to cross it in thier horse drawn buggy.
The group was traveling in a downpour in the dark Thursday about 8:30 p.m when the buggy flipped just a mile from their house. The buggy was crossing a creek that is normally a trickle, but often floods during heavy rains. They made it a third of the way there when there wagon overturned. They were all sadly thrown into the forty degree water. The three siblings were Samuel Wagler, 8; Sarahmae Wagler, 5; and 5-month-old Rosemary Wagler. The fourth victim was their cousin, 11-year-old Elizabeth Wagler. Authorities in Graves County say three of them were found dead but the 11-year-old is still missing. All of them were under 12-years-old and the youngest victim was only five months old.
Two adults and three other children escaped. The horse that was pulling the buggy also survived.
The father of the family had traveled a few miles to his house despite rainy weather to use an Amish community phone. Afterward, the families shared supper before Emanuel Wagler, 29, and his family started for home.

Bumper Cars? Sure:)

I think I left last week with talking about the Polar Bear Plunge. I ended up having to work until after registration. So, although I didn't jump I was there in time to support my team! It was great to see all the people out there supporting a good cause! If you didn't go this year, you definitely should consider going next year! We were actually lucky and had wonderful weather on Saturday! Such beautiful weather, I decided to wash my car! This is just a funny story I'm going to share with you tonight! I went to the carwash, this would be the first time it was washed since the snow so its obvious my car needed it! I went with my roommate to the car wash on 7th and rangeline. Have you ever been to this car wash? If not, you definitely need to! It does an amazing job on my car everytime. Well, anyway...my friend and I went to this carwash. It was her first time going and she was slightly freaked out. She was thinking something terrible was going to happen like we get stuck or something. After a few minutes of assuring her nothing was going to go wrong, we continued on into the carwash. Again, if you haven't ever been to this carwash its the type that more than one car can go in at a time. They have you put your car in neutral and lock your wheels in, somewhat like a rollercoaster. Half way through the carwash, my car starts going up and down rapidly. At this point, I have no idea what to do, I just know it isn't supposed to be happening. Then, it starts to feel like I'm getting hit from the car behind me and hitting the car infront of me. You can imagine what my friend is thinking right now! We looked at each other, and starting laughing. No, I guess its not much of a laughing matter but we didn't know what else to do at the time. Turns out, we were hitting each other back and forth until the stopped the carwash. The carwash was stopped for a couple minutes. All my friend was saying was: "I told you so." But after we were stopped, there wasn't much more that could happen. My car, luckily, didn't have any damage. The people working the carwash were really friendly and considerate about the whole situation. Luckily, so were the people involved. Since I had no damage, I was able to go on with my day. Even after all that, my car still got washed:) Don't let this story affect the way you think about that carwash. That kind of thing rarely happens and they got it under control really quick and were friendly! I will definitely be going back!:)
Well thank you all for taking your time and reading this:) Again, it's just another rant that makes me feel better. Hope you all have a great week!

definition of a rant

Okay, so this is going to be a little rant about a bit of everything. First, my week. I've had an overall productive week! I have had an insanely busy week also and I chose my Friday night to spend doing blogs, I hope this changes. I have a terrible case of procrastination, if you haven't noticed. I had two Anatomy test Tuesday & Wednesday. A math exam Thursday. Today we started our cats in A&P2 and I'm definately stoked! I enjoy dissecting the cat, and I'm not sure why because I'm the biggest animal lover I know. Along with a busy week in school, I've worked almost every day this week.
Another thing I would like to rant about this evening is Joplin, Missouri...traffic! Has anyone else noticed how terrible it has gotten lately? Yeah, the weather is gorgeous...but does that make everyone want to go out and drive? Carpool people! Joplin is a decent size town, but when trying to get across town, I feel like I should be living in Kansas City or something. I wouldn't say I have road rage but it is a little frustrating sometimes. Also, for the people that just drive to just drive. GET GOING! There is no reason for you to be going 25-30 mph on Rangeline, I mean really? I've never wanted a intercom on my car so bad lol.
I just have to take a deep breath and enjoy the beautiful weather!
Tomorrow, is the Polar Bear Plunge. Ever heard of it? Well its an event for the Special Olympics. It's held at Shoal Creek just north of Petro. What do you do? Well, people create "teams" to run into the water and raise money for the Special Olympics. The water was 45 degrees last year. May not sound bad, but I've heard its terrible. I go every year but tomorrow will be the first year I'm actually plunging. In order to plunge you just have to raise $50.00. I'm a part of a team and I think we are dying our hair white and sticking it straight up with blue lipstick. Other teams where bikinis, costumes, etc. It is a lot of fun and definately for a good cause! Tomorrow will definately be an experience! At least the weather will be nice and maybe it has warmed the water a little bit! If you happen to be going, find me and say hi!
Thank you for taking your time and reading my little rant!:) It's amazing how much better I feel after venting, especially about the traffic lol. If you haven't posted a blog with just you ranting and letting everything out, I suggest you did it:) well thanks again! hope you enjoyed:)
have a great day! & God bless!

49th murder

Tonight, I'm going to write about the "Green River Killer."  Sounds crazy, right? The Green River Killer is a man that goes by the name of Gary Ridgeway. The most prolific known serial killer in United States history. The same man that just recently pleaded quilty to his 49th murder convinction. Authorities filed an aggravation murder charge against Gary related to the murder of Becky Marrero, a twenty year old mother, over twenty-eight years ago. Ridgeway is already serving forty-eight consecutive life sentences for slaying women.
Ridgeway was arrested in 2001in King County and accused of five murders. Two years later, when the prosecutors were preparing seven more muder cases, Gary offered to confess to those seven murder victims and forty-one others. Most of the women were prostitutes, officials say. Ridgeway stated that he targetted prostitutes "because I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught."
Gary continued to say that he hated prostitutes and didn't want to pay them for sex. Ridgeway also claimed he killed so many women he had a hard time keeping track of them.
Forty-six of these women were found near Seattle, and two of them found in Washington County, Oregon. Back in November 2003, Ridgeway was sentenced to forty-eight counts of aggravated murder. This is also when prosecutors then agreed not to seek the dealth penalty on Ridgeway if he agreed to "plead guilty to any and all future cases."
Becky Marrero remains were found by teens back in December. The teens were exploring a ravine near the town of Auburn. Gary Ridgeway confessed to the slaying of Becky Marrero. Although, he was unable to give enough details to warrant a charge. That is, until the remains were found. After being charged witb yet another life sentence, Ridgeway returned back to his cell at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.
This is what I don't understand...it seems to be a routine for this guy. So what's the difference between killing one person or two, rather than forty-nine? You recieve a life sentence if you kill a single human being. Ridgeway has killed FORTY-NINE women...and gets forty-nine life sentences. Which, is nothing more than a plea and returns back to his cell? Maybe I don't know how the system works completely. I'm just having a hard time understanding how the consequences are equal when a person kills one person and another perosn kills forty-nine. Yes, more and more families are finding justice. I'm not trying to say anything bad about our system. Its just cases like this, I don't understand how people can get away with just life sentences. It doesn't seem like jail time is enough.
I found this story really interesting. Mainly because I've never heard of the Green River Killer, until now. It really makes me sick to think about all the women he's killed and how many families have been affected by him.
Now, i hope next week, I can STOP waiting until last minute to do these things. Procrastination is never a good thing. Anyway, thank you for reading! :)

Those closest to me:)

I feel that in order for anyone to get to know me, they must first get to know the people closest to me. First off, I'm going to talk to you about my relationship I have with this certain boy I like to call my man. If any of you would like to stop reading at this time, I'll understand. Not everyone likes to read about some college girl's love story. Although, I'll have you know this isn't all about him, my family is coming next!
If you read my earlier, you'll recall that I met this boy through such easily obsessive social network we call Facebook. I actually met him at Missouri Southern's Freshman Orientation Day. You all hear of those love stories where they first meet and their breath was "taken away" and it was "love at first sight" kind of thing, right? Well, I wouldn't necessarily say it was love and first sight but he did, indeed, take my breath away. I had to find out who this guy was, so I did what any teenage girl would do and I "creeped" him on Facebook. It started from there & progressed into the happiest six months of my life!:) I never would have thought going into college would I find a serious boyfriend, but I guess everything happens for a reason!
Now, on to my family, saving the best for last! I have a family of four: my mother, father, sister, and of course me! My parents have been married for about 23 years and are the happiest couple I know! I am so blessed to have such an amazing family. My parents have always been there for me and I could never ask for anything more! I'm lucky to be able to say my parents are my best friends. My sister is two years older than me. This girl isn't just my sister, she's my best friend and other half. I moved in with her this past summer and I couldn't ask for a better room mate. I'm a very blessed person and not a day goes by that I don't thank God for putting such wonderful people in my life!

Bull in The Ring

What is "Bull In The Ring"? At first, I had no idea. Yet, after reading I learned that it is a football drill where several of the football players form a circle around one member of the team. The single player in the middle begins a shuffle. As, one at a time, the football players fling their bodies at him. Being hit at full force, he is the target of tackle. The player in the middle must adjust his position in attempts to neutralize the attack, then get ready for the next player. The drill will continue until the coach calls an end to it and another player is rotated into the center. A letter from a parent concerning the drill can be found here.
I chose to right about this because I found it very interesting. I, personally, have never heard of this before. I am also a girl, and not a football player. I'm sure those who participated in football during high school, or college have heard about this. Also, your opinion on the matter may vary whether you played the sport or not. Personally, I believe it's wrong. To make someone a target, against raging football players is wrong. Risking their health and well-being is wrong. A lot of coaches think of "bull in the ring" as a drill to excercise agility and mental fortitude. I understand the stragedy of hustling and being able to dodge a tackle, but aren't there easier ways to do it than this?
This drill was much more popular back in the day. Now a days, you hardly see it. Until just recently, a coach from Westport Conneticut did this drill with fifth-graders. Fifth-graders. Boys at the age of ten. The coach's name is Carmen Roda, he descrbed the drill as "head to head, hammer to hammer." Roda also described it as being "more about agression and technique. The old school of coaching football is that aggression." During the season of 2009 his team had twenty concussions, total. After realizing this, Roda decided that he needed to bring in a "new school" way of coaching. Roda continued to say "the game 20 years ago is not the game today, so why not teach it differently?" Coach Roda, who has been coaching football for fifteen years said that all coaches, especially at the youth level, need to be open to newer ways of coaching because we're dealing with kids.
This, is somewhat of a postive story about the "bull in the ring" drill. Yes, it is sad to see any coach try and do that on fifth-graders but to realize there needs to be a new way of coaching is a positive. Not always does it end like that. Everyone has their own opinions, and several aren't afraid to voice them, there are blogs anywhere on the internet. Many people out there think that a lot of aggression and a little injury is okay for the game of football. In my opinion, you can coach aggression without any harmful consequences.
